Major round-up: release one
September 16, 2006Shale is making the rounds as we take a look back at the first week of majors. And, although we’re not promising to make this a regular weekly feature of the blog, we’ll still try our best to give you an idea of what we’ve been up to what we’ve seen, heard and experienced. And, take note, we’ll be quoting from a lot of people, mostly from those that I personally know. It’s just an attempt to give you guys a little idea of what’s happening.
After the fold, block reunions, photography expenses, and of course, Miss Diaz.
For starters, a joke from the Psychology students, taken from Monica Alcoseba’s blog. Taking much advantage of a reunited block to crack jokes like they were freshmen again, this one was launched after their teacher had introductions done by making a sentence out of their name.
Classmate #1: I’m Kyle. My sentence is, “She loves his big Kyle”.
Classmate #2: Ay! Bastos!
Classmate #3: Smile!
Classmate #1: Yeah, that’s right.
Sir Ron [Resurrecion]: Galing, ah. Hmm, you can say… “Stop Kyle-ing at me!” og “You have a nice Kyle!”
John Pangan simply sums up his entries about the first week as such: “That’s majors for you, what can you expect?” Being one of those who took photography instead of research, here’s what he had to say:
“It’s great although it’s quite tedious with the requirements. (I like the [professor], she’s cute).”
As far as we’ve heard, it has been touted as the costliest class in DLSU. Students have been asked to expect to spend around P350 a week. Quoting this time from a conversation with Clarence Arreza:
Clarence Arreza: every week ata may photoexcercise
Clarence Arreza: and of course dapat ring makipagunahan sa pagdevelop nun sa lab
Clarence Arreza: and MAGASTOS
With cameras as part-prerequisites, people have started to dig up their cameras, however old they may be. Marcia Jarina had this old SLR and had it checked at the photography workshop. Apparently the shutter’s stuck, and we don’t have an idea whether it’s better to buy a second-hand, but much newer, SLR.
Ariane Astorga, on the other hand, has some hint of pessimism about finding herself without Jana Centeno as a classmate anywhere:
“Thank God that for my first class, I had Clarence and Kizia as classmates. I was quite scared with the start of this term and it really helped that they were there with me. But now that I think about it, it’s the exact opposite with [Jana]. I wouldn’t be having any classes with her and that sucks. I just can’t help but think that the [party animals] is slowly being dissolved as time goes by… oh well. Maybe not.”
Monica’s been happy about the block reunion, and has begun posting a lot of LR27 stories on her blog. That, despite her expecting to “[not] know anyone”.
In between all this, however, Kim Malicsi has been sidelined for a week following an operation. She’s coming back on Monday, partly backed up by the BonoSoc sending her reminders and giving her some catch-up. Announcing her return, she said:
“See you guys next week! Thanks sa lahat ng help!!!! I owe [you] guys loads!!! Sorry. Hehe. [Di bale], guys… tiis tiis… malapit na mag-Monday! Wohoo! Hehe!”
Of course, there are the people who got slots to Miss Diaz’s research class. And, if anybody’s been writing about it more, it’s Caresse Dy.
“Meron lang naman kami [seven] quizzes for a research subject. Tapos recitation raw bawal tumingin sa handouts. Eh napakahabang readings pinapabasa samin ngayon for tomorrow na.”
Indeed the handouts, as I observed, are thick. “That was a thick handout, honestly,” to be exact about the quote. Jackie Uy, on the other hand, had a different take. From the Upper Blog’s tagboard:
“Miss Diaz is soooooo soooooo good Niko[…] remember [Miss] Krainz? Parang ganun!”
Finally, a little thought from Clarence Arreza (again) about majoring and blogging:
“I’m also stuck here doing this entry without worrying too much about majors.”
As we here always love to say, so much for dedication. And if we decide to fade out, it simply means we’re getting busier and busier.
