It’s enrollment season, again

Sometimes you wonder whether enrollment this term would really be worth it. Of course there’s the problem with the servers, and last term it ceremoniously went down for us CLA sophomores availing of priority enrollment. Last night Jenn and I wondered whether it would be any better - why wouldn’t the ITC improve server capacity than, say, provide dial-up access that almost everyone doesn’t avail. As I said somewhere before, quadruple access and everybody will be happy.

The ITC has been getting fire lately, but it’s on other issues, one of them being blocked sites (Yahoo! Messenger included). However, it seems not many have spoken about My.Lasalle’s server capacity, and despite the dial-up fee being “donations” since not everybody’s been using it, we only wonder where this goes.

Anyway, online enrollment week starts on 13 November, and as with every second term of the year the frosh get a stab at enrollment. The schedule is somewhat the same, but the only change - which in paper would lessen the chances of hundreds, if not thousands, of people accessing at the same time and crashing the servers - is that there’s a new layer of eligiblity, so to speak.

If before, access times are separated by ID numbers, they are now also separated by last name. The login schedule is as follows:

08.00 onwards ID#103 and below A to K
09.00 onwards ID#103 and below L to Z
10.00 onwards ID#104 A to K
11.00 onwards ID#104 L to Z
12.00 onwards ID#105 A to K
13.00 onwards ID#105 L to Z
14.00 onwards ID#106 A to K
15.00 onwards ID#106 L to Z

Last names would be rotated every term, so next enrollment tose from L to Z would enroll first. The schedule is as follows:

13 November: advance enrollment
14 November: priority enrollment (CBE/LC)
15 November: priority enrollmrnt (CLA/COE)
16 November: priority enrollment (CED/CCS/COS)
17 November: regular enrollment (CBE/LC)
20 November: regular enrollment (CLA/COE)
21 November: regular enrollment (CED/CCS/COS)
22 November: inter-college enrollment

Just now I realized I was wrong about telling Jenn about the schedules.

Then again, it’s the frosh’s first time to enroll like this, and as they face the prospect of dead servers and deblocked blocks (obviously), they all still have their own questions. I am talking right now to AB-ISE frosh Alyssa Pabellano and she’s asked me whether enrollment can happen at 23.00, which obviously doesn’t. And psyching up, of course, to new schedules. She’d try afternoon classes, she said.

Then again, they’d go down a million flights of stairs to get a computer, and EGI sure will be really, really full come 14 November. Oh well…
